Alfred Tarazi

Born 1980, Beirut, Lebanon.

Tarazi studied graphic design at the American University of Beirut graduating in 2004.  His work revolves around the memory of the civil war and positioning himself as an instigator to try and mend, understand and reconnect with a time that blacked out Lebanon. The traumatic post-war Lebanon raised his awareness about the intensity and dimension that the war took on the country, and is translated in his work through altered perceptions of the post-war period on political, geographical and social levels. This dismay is often found in his visually stimulating digital collages through super-positions of pre- and post-war Lebanon, where past situations are re-enacted, revealing uncanny circumstances. The viewer is set in a position of the witness, where recollection is inevitable.

Tarazi's work explores a broad spectrum of mediums, from prints to digital collages, sculpture and installation.
