Laura Pharaon

Laura Pharaon's work touches upon the transient nature of life and material things. The variety of material and processes, paper, rags, gravel, coal, ashes, concrete, wax, ink paint and residues are arranged to represent figures of dissolution. Form and substance coexist in each piece to reveal the pulling forces of resilience against decay. The medium used informs an emotional approach where the surface bears the memories like a fossil holds the secrets of the time gone by. The work visually evokes the shape of struggle integrating land-like abstract structures. The intensity is expressed in a seemingly aftermath whether it is vanishing sand, torn paper or the density of fragmentation.

The suggested ruins are at one with the flow of the heart and the mind where the recollection is filled with the notion of the imaginary: This dimension is manifested sometimes by the use of colour, other times by the effect of crystallized layers on to each other. The dream can also be distinguished by a playful use of preciousness with ephemeral materials. The poetic take on residues and dust is an essential ingredient to the alchemy of each work. Often, the line is blurred between the motions of blooming and exploding creating a renewed sense of continuity.
