Free Reign: Blank to Basics
A group exhibition with Omran Kayssi, Charles Khoury, Lena Merhej, Jean-Marc Nahas, SISKA, and Alfred Tarazi
July 20 - August 15, 2009

Free Reign: Blank to Basics is a drawing and illustration challenge that aims to investigate the approach of “the sketch” with a specific outlook on its very nature: raw thoughts and pure paper. It is about rooting the act of drawing, in order to restore its primal, back to basics and honest characteristics while exploring the contrast and power of a pencil and/or ink on paper.

This exploration of medium becomes a richer experience to the viewer and for the artist who will allow this blankness and void to come to life.

The artists selected are multidisciplinary in order for each to bring different media such as ink, collage, and charcoal, to the work. The artists will be given a blank page of fixed dimensions and will be required to provide a sequence of five works, three of which will be selected. These pieces could serve as blueprints for the final product.
