CARNAL ASPIRATIONS by EMI MIYASHITA
The Running Horse is pleased to present Carnal Aspirations, the first solo exhibition by Japanese artist Emi Miyashita.
Miyashita’s work has been introduced into the Beirut art scene over the last 4 years through various group shows at the gallery and has seen interest amongst the Lebanese audience, who went nutty for her kinky desires.
Miyashita’s body of work is broadly constituted of drawn or collaged male and female genitalia landscapes set amid plants, trees, animals and objects that the artists desires, such as furniture, lingerie, and other.
The miniature pencil drawings are installed with magnifying glasses in order to invite the viewers to penetrate the intimacy pictured and behold…
Humorous at first, the drawings are poignant and reveal the strong emotions tied to the artist’s life and experiences. The finely drawn sexual organs stand in for whole bodies, and are interactive actors in the unfolding scenes. In turn, a strong sense of gender and power relationships comes through the depicted storylines, of the archaic/primal mother, a bitter and harsh relation to men, or a soothing sense of togetherness often set in harmonious or mysterious environments.
Recent works include sculpture and collage, impersonating childhood dreams and fantasies.
DES MACAQUES ET DES HOMMES by CHARIF GHATTAS
The Pony is pleased to present the work of Charif Ghattas.
French-Lebanese writer based in Paris, Charif Ghattas has developped a series of drawings, closely tied to his writing.
